The List of David's Mighty Men Continues

Continuing a chronological Bible study and continuing a list of David's mightiest men started in the last post:

David's Mightiest Men

(1 Chronicles 11:35) Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,

The account in 2 Samuel 23 named another Shammah said to be a Hararite along with Ahiam from the same tribe.  Ahiam's father's name varies a little, Sacar instead of Sharar.  Eliphal would seem to be a variant of Eliphelet from the Samuel account, except that there his father was said to be Ahasbai.

(36) Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,

From here on the list varies a lot from the list in 2 Samuel 23.  Eliam was skipped and two new names were added.

(37) Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,

These appear to be variants of Hezrai and Paarai.

(38) Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Haggeri,

Igal and Bani were skipped and Joel and Mibhar added.  However, Igal was said to be the son of Nathan, and Joel is Nathan's brother, so it is very likely that one family member died early and the other took his place.  The same might be the case of Bani and Mibhar, as the list returned to the same names after those.

(39) Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah, (40) Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, (41) Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,

The list in 2 Samuel 23 ended with Uriah, 37 mighty men in all.  This list continued with additional mighty men of David beginning with Zabad.

(42) Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a captain of the Reubenites, and thirty with him, (43) Hanan the son of Maachah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite,

Once again, because Blogger only allows twenty labels per post, this list of David's mightiest warriors ends on one last post:
