Choose Life: A Tale of Two Church Leaders and Making a Choice Between Light and Darkness

I received two emails today. Well, I receive 100's of emails between eBaying and homeschooling and genealogy and political activism and Bible study, but these two made quite an impression because they tell the story of two church leaders in the world today and displays the HUGE contrast growing between many churches today. There seems to be a huge contrast growing in every aspect of our lives today. Today's culture swings from the godly Bible-believing Christian to the rampant immorality of Sodom and Gomorrah. Look at TV, movies, music, and video games; the pendulum swings far and wide. In our government and politics, I see a great divide that gets greater every year. I'm sorry for this statement, but I believe it's true that a Christian can no longer be a Democrat. That party has embraced everything wicked and rejects and demonizes everything good. It wants to kill the most innocent and save the most wicked. Look at abortion, despicable partial-birth abortion, and even more despicable doing nothing to save a baby born alive after a botched abortion. Then contrast the debate over supposed US "torture" of terrorists which is the same "torture" that our soldiers endure in training! Or how about no death penalty for the most hardened murderers? And with hate crimes they want pedophiles and homosexuals protected but Christians and pro-lifers are domestic terror threats! Think of the pornography they want protected as free speech, but they want conservative talk radio silenced and the 71-year-old Christian lady witnessing to the homosexual jailed. They think the earth is to be worshiped and "saved" to the point that they can rationalize killing people - look at forced abortion and population control and new legislation in healthcare "reform" that says there will be a productivity formula to determine people's health treatment, meaning the younger and more productive get treatment the older and less productive will be denied. Liberals' culture of death says that unborn babies don't have a right to life, but they think there should be a right to die! Our US president spoke at a CHRISTIAN university, but insisted on covering up all Christian symbols!

Look at our churches today. While there have always been churches considered more conservative and some more liberal, it seems to me there's a larger contrast than ever before, and they are more blatant in their embrace of ungodly things. This brings me back to the two emails I received today. From Family Research Council, there was an article about a powerful and morally uncompromising speech by Archbishop Raymond Burke given at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast on Friday, May 8. Here are the highlights as presented by FRC:

"I come to you, not as someone who stands outside of our nation but as a citizen who...takes responsibility for the state of our nation and, therefore, cannot remain indifferent and inactive about what most concerns the good of us all... Over the past several months, our nation has chosen a path which more completely denies any legal guarantee of the most fundamental human right, the right to life, to the innocent and defenseless unborn. Our nation, which had its beginning in the commitment to safeguard and promote the inalienable right to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" for all, without boundary, is more and more setting arbitrary limits to her commitment... With unparalleled arrogance, our nation is choosing to renounce its foundation upon the faithful...love of a man and a woman in marriage, and, in violation of what nature itself teaches us, to replace it with a so-called marital relationship, according to the definition of those who exercise the greatest power in our society... What those who were so enthused about the strong message of change and hope in the United States, delivered during the last election campaign, are now discovering is a consistent implementation of policies and programs which confirm and advance the culture of death, which can only finally leave our world without the Great Hope... The change which brings hope can only be the renewal of our nation in the divine love which respects the inviolable dignity of every human life...and which creates and gives growth to new human life through the love of man and woman in marriage. Any hope which is incoherent with the Great Hope is truly illusory and can never bring forth justice and its fruit--peace--for our nation and world."

The entire speech can be read here at LifeSiteNews.com.

Contrast that to the second email I received from The Berean Call that highlited an article from Telegraph.co.uk. Excerpts from The Berean Call:

"Abortion is a blessing and abortionists are doing holy work, says Anglican priest.

The new Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massacusetts, has given a sermon describing abortions as a "blessing" for the women who undergo them. The Rev Katherine Hancock Ragsdale also thinks that the people who run abortion clinics are "heroes" and even "saints".

Ms Ragsdale, speaking in Birmingham, Alabama, said that "when a woman becomes pregnant within a loving, supportive, respectful relationship; has every option open to her; decides she does not wish to bear a child; and has access to a safe, affordable abortion - there is not a tragedy in sight - only blessing."

Do not, please, make the mistake of assuming that she is an unrepresentative extremist: liberal Anglicans in America are among the most fervent supporters of abortion in the world, outstripping even atheists in their enthusiasm for this gruesome procedure.

[Dean Ragsdale finished her sermon with the following exhortation]: These are the two things I want you, please, to remember - abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Let me hear you say it: abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done.

I want to thank all of you who protect this blessing - who do this work every day: the health care providers, doctors, nurses, technicians, receptionists, who put your lives on the line to care for others (you are heroes -- in my eyes, you are saints); the escorts and the activists; the lobbyists and the clinic defenders; all of you. You're engaged in holy work."

The original article can be accessed here from Telegraph.co.uk.

In everything these days, the culture, the politics, and religion, it's as if God is still dividing the light from the darkness as in Genesis and telling us to pick one side or the other - no more fence-riding!

I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth.
Revelation 3:15-16

God hates the lukewarm! He wants us to choose a side, hot or cold, light or darkness, life or death.

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
Deuteronomy 30:19

I have never seen things as blatantly open as they are now. There was a time when evil deeds were hidden, lied about, covered up. Now it seems they are out in the open. They're just called good now!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Isaiah 5:20

But people instinctively know good from evil. They know abortion is wrong, but can choose to overlook it if they are told that fighting global warming is a greater moral good. They know homosexuality is wrong but can choose to overlook it if they are told that it is more loving to embrace homosexuality. They know pornography is wrong and it's right for God and Christian-witnessing to be in the public square, but they are just as happy to let them be pushed out because then they don't have to feel uncomfortable about their own compromises and evil ways. They like Good News and Prosperity and Happy Talk churches that don't tell the whole truth because they don't have to feel uncomfortable or make hard decisions.

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
2 Timothy 4:3

Isn't it amazing how EVERYTHING is found in the Bible!? All answers, prophecy, wisdom - it's all there, if we would all just turn to it.

I think people knew it wasn't right to vote for a President who stood for so many ungodly things, but chose to listen to the Happy Hope and Change Talk. I believe they know having the president of the US cover up all Christian symbols on a stage before he can speak is wrong, but they can overlook it and accept some lame excuse about lighting or even separation of church and state or whatever convenient excuse is given. They know right from wrong and the wrongs are getting more open and blatant. I believe it's because God is shining the light on the darkness and saying "There it is, right and wrong; now make your choice." Actually, He already said that:

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
Deuteronomy 30:19

Please choose LIFE!
